Job summary

Warrengate is a busy, high achieving friendly training Practice with an excellent reputation situated in the centre of Wakefield close to transport links and local amenities. The Practice list size currently stands at approximately 11,500 patients.

We are looking for a part time Practice Nurse, working 21 hours per week over 3 days (working days to be confirmed), who has good communication and organisational skills to join our existing friendly and supportive healthcare team.

We would welcome applications from experienced or newly qualified Nurses who have knowledge of some or all the elements and would be willing to undertake further training to meet other areas of the job description.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be able to work independently and efficiently to deliver a high quality of care to our patients. You will have the support and guidance of our excellent team of Practice Nurses and Advance Nurse Practitioners.

Previous Primary Care experience, experience in long term conditions management, relevant qualifications, experience of the SystmOne clinical system and ICE are desirable for this role.

Job description

A full job description is available but ideally the candidate would have experience, or a willingness to develop skills in :

· Management of LTCs - Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, COPD

· Support and advise women requesting information relating to family planning needs and those presenting for cervical cytology consultations

· Travel advice and vaccinations

· Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations

· Hypertension Management

· Peak Flow Readings and Spirometry

· Wound care, ulcer care and Doppler assessment

· Removal of Sutures

· New Patient Medicals and Urinalysis

· ECG recordings

· Venepuncture

· Ear syringing

· Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician

· Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings

· Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

· Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate

· Supporting housebound long term condition reviews and vaccination programmes such as Covid and Influenza

· Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs

· Participate in the support and supervision of students and junior nursing staff in clinics. Referring any concerns or development needs to their mentor or clinical service manager.
