Qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - School Nurse, term time only, School Nursing - Reading

A Monday - Thursday 9am-5pm term time only (39 weeks) working pattern is just one of the attractions this opportunity provides. We are looking to recruit a qualified Band 6 School Nurse to work as part of the 0-19 team in Reading working closely alongside our Health Visiting colleagues. You will be an enthusiastic and qualified school nurse, with a warm personality and great people skills. Willing to undertake relevant training, you will have leadership experience and be able to demonstrate innovative practice.

This will entail working within the Reading area, delivering core and targeted services to children aged 5-19 and their families. The perfect candidate will have the ability to work with other teams and agencies and have a real passion for working with children/young people and families whilst being able to adapt to continuing development and change.

Main duties of the job

About the Job

  • Delivering school drop in sessions to a defined number of targeted schools including both primary and senior schools.
  • To manage and organise a defined caseload independently, addressing the health needs of children according to evidence based practice.
  • To undertake in depth health assessments for Children in Care, children who are subject to a Child Protection Plan and vulnerable children and work according the Berkshire LSCB Policies and Procedures as required.
  • To ensure the most effective use of human and physical resources within the team by appropriate delegation of work and use/application of resources.
  • To provide targeted health interventions to children and young people with identified health needs.
  • To exercise leadership, judgment, and management to ensure excellent clinical practice, maintaining high standards of care.

  • A Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nursing) active on the NMC register
  • High standard of clinical work and ability to develop and maintain trusting relationships with children/young people
  • A degree of agility and the ability to carry/manoeuvre light to moderate loads
  • Car driver with ability and readiness to travel to multiple sites
