Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Data Manager / Research Assistant Psychologist for a Wellcome funded research study, SloMo2. SloMo is a digitally supported, cognitive-behavioural therapy for psychosis that improves fear of harm from others (or paranoia). The SloMo2 study is investigating if SloMo therapy can be delivered by real world clinicians, by conducting a clinical investigation of its implementation, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness in three NHS Trusts.

The postholder will join a friendly study team that is led Dr Amy Hardy. The post will be supervised by Dr Katie Taylor-Ryan, Study Coordinator and Dr Sarah Swan, Therapy Lead. The postholder will work alongside a lived experience researcher, and liaise with routine care psychological practitioners to facilitate data collection, promote uptake, and for provision of technical support.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide data management and reporting support for the SloMo2 study, ensuring data integrity and completeness.
  • To support research delivery in line with Good Clinical Practice through quantitative and qualitative data collection, safety monitoring, and Patient and Public Involvement.
  • To support SloMo as a therapy service through provision of technical support, liaison with therapists, and assistance to the Therapy Lead.
  • To contribute to team functioning and project management through effective communication, organisation, and use of supervision.

Job description

The postholder will be primarily responsible for managing and cleaning databases for the SloMo2 study, as well as producing reports for the team and regulatory bodies, as required. You will assist in the checking, cleaning, and quality maintenance of databases, working with the SloMo2 study team. Recruitment to SloMo2 commenced in October 2023 and has been successful to date, with plans to continue until March 2027. Therapy data collection will continue until September 2027. Tasks will include liaising with and assisting Research Assistant Psychologists and Therapy Leads with data entry, quality, and cleaning across the three study sites to prepare for the study ending. You should be enthusiastic about database management with relevant skills, and have a keen eye for detail. You will receive training in managing the existing study databases, and will be expected to develop processes to optimise data entry and management. You will be trained in Information Governance and have a good understanding of data integrity and confidentiality.

The postholder will also assist in the running of the study in the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and there may be opportunities for therapy delivery dependent on previous experience. Tasks include liaison with multidisciplinary teams and therapists; study promotion; managing referrals; overseeing participant recruitment and informed consent procedures; data collection of quantitative (i.e. implementation, clinical, service use, technical and safety) and qualitative (i.e. service user experience of therapy) outcomes; and technical support. The postholder will join weekly group supervision with the Research Assistant Psychologists from other sites, regular line management supervision, and regular opportunities for reflection and learning with Lived Experience Researchers across sites. The postholder will be responsible for working in accordance with the National Institute of Health Research principles of Good Clinical Practice. The post will suit an individual with an interest in data management, psychosis, digital mental health, and/or implementation of psychological therapies.

We strive to be an inclusive research team, and we welcome applicants from a diverse range of communities to apply for the post, including people from diverse ethnic communities, people who identify as LGBTQIA+, and/or who identify as having a disability, lived experience of a mental health problem, or as being neurodivergent.

Please see the attached Job Description for full details of the key responsibilities for this role.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Please note this vacancy may close early if we receive a high number of applications.
