We are currently advertising for a Specialty Doctor in Anaesthesia. This post is for 10 programmed activities. The post holder will be expected to participate in a 1:8 on-call rota initially on the intensive care unit. A breakdown of the draft job plan for the post is included in the information pack.
The post offers the opportunity to work in a small, ACSA accredited department in an award-winning hospital in an area of outstanding natural beauty within the heart of England in the rolling countryside near Skipton and Ilkley, close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The post-holder must have completed at least three years of postgraduate training in the specialty of Anaesthesia and must have basic competencies in obstetric anaesthesia and critical care medicine. Or must have completed three years of single stem intensive care training and have basic anaesthetic competencies.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join a department of 24 consultants, 12 specialty doctors/associate specialists and up to 12 rotating residents from the Yorkshire Deanery. We encourage involvement in our existing quality improvement projects and as well as new ideas for improving or developing new work streams. The department has recently been awarded Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) having been commended by ACSA in many aspects including team communication, simulation training and Specialty Doctor career development.
The initial job plan is for 10 PAs with opportunity for extra PAs (up to 12 in total) to include in hours and resident out of hours working on the critical care 1:8 rota. Time is allocated within job plans for any additional responsibilities in addition to SPA time. Professional leave is available for agreed additional responsibilities in addition to study leave.

As a Department and as a Trust we have fully embraced the specialty doctor's charter. Autonomous working for specialty doctors is in place, and within anaesthesia we have specialty doctors working autonomously.
