Job summary

The role is within the Digital Information team. The team is responsible for all aspects of information services, such as Analysis and Intelligence, Data Quality, Performance, BI Warehousing and Business Intelligence, Data Protection, Health Records, Clinical Information and Training.

This post holder will manage a small team of skilled analysts who develop reporting scopes, extract and process data from our BI warehouse and generate reports and intelligent insights. This post holder will specifically manage the Patient Safety, Patient Care and Experience analyst team.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will provide insightful analytics that will provide the senior management with greater visibility and improved understanding of its business through investigative analysis, visualisation and robust data journalism. This post holder will analyse data and provide intelligent information that will contribute towards the transformation of services and improvements in patient care and experience.

This post holder supported by the expertise of their line manager will forecast, deliver and monitor impact of Trustwide or service specific initiatives; and be able to combine the datasets from several sources including across corporate teams, systems and organisations.

Be able to analyse data using a wide range of database tools and statistical analysis techniques. Create complex queries and reports in SQL (database analysis tool), Python or R and be able to present the reports using SQL Reporting Services, PowerBI or Shiny.

The post holder will need to be capable of developing specialist knowledge and expertise within NHS Information and become fully conversant with the datasets captured in the NHS.

Job role - key tasks

To represent the Digital Information Team on Divisional projects where data driven evidence will be required to support tactical decisions and monitor the outcomes/impacts.

To look beyond the original requests to ensure a holistic approach that will challenge assumptions and predict outcomes and performance. To utilise data and information analysis to provide advice on option appraisals for possible scenarios.

To understand the purpose of requests and to ensure the analysis incorporates (where applicable) predictive and prescriptive analysis to generate holistic results. To ensure that the results are communicated clearly, including the limitations of the data, techniques and assumptions.

To augment quantitative analysis with qualitative data analysis where possible.

To be responsible for the production, development and promotion of a range of statistical / information services; provide expert advice and guidance on statistical / information matters, including the development of health-related data sets and information.

To provide an intelligent written overview of the actionable strategic insights and how the data can drive forward the impacts intended.

Provide expert advice from data cradle to grave including data collection, data entry, data extraction, analysis and intelligent conveyancing and presentation.

To have responsibility for the provision of information systems/services across the Trust and the development of systems at departmental level.

To oversee the production of all external returns of data and compliance to national and local regulations. To include all statutory returns and the return of datasets to Secondary Uses Service (SUS).

To oversee the production of routine and ad hoc information to support the Trust in monitoring key performance targets and to support its decision making process. Work with the Information Senior Management Team to produce Directorate Performance reports.

Advise and raise awareness for the Division on any initiatives that could deliver optimum financial benefit.

To oversee the workload and to peer review outputs from the Senior Information Analysts, Information Analysts and Information Officers.

To ensure that all requests are evaluated for health inequalities and inequalities in care provision.

Participate in all appropriate meetings, relevant to data, information and intelligence requests.

General Duties

Liaise with a diverse range of staff including managers and clinicians to interpret highly complex or ambiguous requirements. Apply specialist knowledge to advise of information available, particularly in relation to data sources, methods of analysis, data quality and interpretation in light of historical changes to data collection.

The job entails the provision and explanation of complex information. The post holder must therefore have excellent communication and written presentational skills and reasonable verbal presentational skills. They must be confident when communicating with people at all levels of the organization and also externally.

Present information appropriately for each project by using a variety of media. Be able to provide Statistical process graphs, benchmarking data, process mapping, demonstrate trends, calculate percentages and variances and providing explanatory notes and interpretation regarding data ambiguities.

Responsible for horizon scanning changes that may affect existing processes. Provide expert knowledge, guidance and support to information staff on Information issues. Keep staff informed of corporate and department objectives and deadlines.

To adhere to trust policies regarding confidentiality and information security.

To keep up to date with information practices and policies through all the appropriate resources, to enable effective delivery of the information service to the Trust

To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade of this job.
