Job summary

We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic consultants dedicated to medical outlier patients where you will lead the daily reviews of medical patients and oversee short courses of rehabilitation for some patients before discharge. The case mix may include a proportion of acute patients transferred from the acute medical unit, subject to suitable triage. It will be necessary to see patients on outlier wards/discharge lounge and these duties may continue on a shared basis thereafter (detail to be agreed subject to satisfactory recruitment).

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, AHPs and resident doctors.

This post is suitable for an experienced physician, looking for flexibility of hours, a recent CCT-holder looking at this as a stepping stone to speciality posts, or doctors with childcare or other family commitments who would like to work flexible hours. A clinician who is eligible for CESR and/or would like support in the CESR application may also be considered.

Main duties of the job

Experience in GIM medicine would be essential. Post-holders close to CCT in general internal medicine will be considered.

Development of a clinic in your chosen specialty will be encouraged. Teaching undergraduates will also be encouraged as we are a highly developed teaching hospital to the University of Birmingham.

There will be an option to participate in the acute medical on call rota although this will not be obligatory. There will be responsibility for governance and audit, both internal and national audits, secretarial support and office accommodation.

The trust is keen to promote and maintain CPD for all medical staff

The appointee will be encouraged to attain the necessary external CPD points and there are weekly grand round meetings and lunchtime teaching.
