We are looking for an experienced and confident GP Senior Clinical Decision Maker to join our Single Point of Access (SPOA) service, providing senior clinical leadership and expert decision-making to support the delivery of safe, effective and timely care for adults aged 18 and over.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced GP to use their clinical expertise to support patients with urgent and unplanned healthcare needs, helping them access the most appropriate care in the most appropriate setting.

Working remotely, you will play a key role in supporting clinicians, navigating urgent care pathways and identifying alternatives to Emergency Department attendance or hospital admission wherever clinically appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, you will provide senior clinical assessment, advice and decision-making for patients referred to or managed through the SPOA.

You will work collaboratively with primary care, community services, urgent and emergency care, acute providers and other relevant agencies to ensure patients receive appropriate care and that clinical risks are recognised and managed effectively.

We are seeking a patient-centred and clinically experienced GP who is confident making autonomous decisions and supporting colleagues in a fast-paced urgent care environment.

You will have the clinical judgement, communication skills and professional accountability needed to assess complex presentations remotely and help ensure patients receive safe and appropriate care.

This is a remote, self-employed opportunity, offering the following working hours and hourly rates:

Monday to Friday: 13:0017:00 at £60 per hour.

Saturday and Sunday: 08:0013:00 or 13:0018:00 at £75 per hour.

Weekend sessions are available in both the morning and afternoo

  • Providing senior clinical assessment, advice and decision-making for patients presenting with urgent or unplanned care needs.
  • Undertaking remote clinical assessments and telephone triage where required.
  • Supporting triage clinicians and multidisciplinary colleagues with expert clinical guidance and professional support.
  • Reviewing clinical information and determining appropriate management plans and care pathways.
  • Recognising clinical red flags, deterioration and situations requiring escalation to urgent or emergency services.
  • Making autonomous clinical decisions in complex or uncertain situations, balancing clinical risk and supporting care closer to home where safe.
  • Contributing to service quality, reflective practice and continuous improvement.
