Job summary

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest providers of Talking Therapies services in the country. We are currently seeking a Team Leader to support the operational leadership of the service, with a focus at Step 2 or Step 3 of the service.

This is a particularly positive time to join us, following contract renewal, as the service moves to a data-led, Place-based model, taking provision closer to the local population that it serves while developing an already broad portfolio of clinical specialisms, including perinatal, trauma and long-term conditions.

Norfolk and Waveney Talking Therapies is research active and is working closely with the University of East Anglia, a UK Top 25 university (Complete University Guide 2025) as both a provider of training for mental health professionals and a research partner as we build our portfolio of projects. We are also working with local acute healthcare providers to this end, embedding our therapeutic staff within wider systems of health. The service has excellent access to ongoing training and specialist supervision.

We are committed to quality through external scrutiny and have recently joined the Accreditation Programme for Psychological Therapies (APPTS), part of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, College Centre for Quality Improvement assurance programme.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Team Leader you will be expected to work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service including advising both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.

Working within a busy, high volume clinical environment is often challenging and therefore, expertise is required to support staff and develop staff within this environment by providing expert line management supervision.

Our psychological therapies are delivered face to face, as well as online and by telephone, depending upon the needs of service users. Though hybrid working is part of the role, all staff are expected to attend team hubs and other delivery sites to work with colleagues and see people as required, and to participate in a range of training and service activities. The hubs related to these positions will be in Dereham or Norwich.

All staff are expected to participate in regular supervision to ensure the quality of delivery and maintain professional development and wellbeing.

It is an expectation that staff will contribute to the ongoing programme of development and improvement, including clinical audits, service evaluation and personal performance appraisal.

Job description

The NHS Norfolk and Waveney Talking Therapies Clinical Team Leader role is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of a range of aspects of service delivery within the team and for managerial supervision of professional staff.

To ensure a responsive, high quality Talking Therapy service is provided to clients, their families and carers within the clinical environment. Maintain compliance with key performance indicators.

They will allocate work to relevant services and monitor the teams contribution to the overall objectives of the service and Trust.

The Clinical Team Leader will provide professional governance and leadership within their area. They will deputise for the Deputy Service Manager as required. They may hold a client caseload or support clinical delivery as agreed by the service.

Work location

We are offering a combination of remote and face-to-face treatment options and applicants for this role would need to be able to work at locally based positions within Norfolk for some of the working week. The hub related to this position will be in Dereham. We would therefore be interested in hearing from you if you would like to work a combination of remote and face to face working in Norfolk and Waveney. For future face-to-face working options, being able to drive will be essential.
