An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Nutrition and Dietetic Department at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to recruit a Band 6 Specialist Dietitian in Adult Diabetes (0.6 WTE).

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and patient-centred dietitian to join our established Diabetes Dietetic Team. This role offers the opportunity to provide specialist nutritional assessment, advice and support to adults living with diabetes across a range of outpatient and multidisciplinary settings. The successful candidate will work closely with consultant diabetologists, diabetes specialist nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care for people with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes and other complex diabetes-related conditions.

This post is ideally suited to a dietitian with experience in diabetes care who is looking to further develop their specialist knowledge and leadership skills within a supportive and forward-thinking team.If you are passionate about delivering excellent patient care and empowering individuals to self-manage their diabetes through effective nutritional interventions, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will be expected to demonstrate experience across all aspects of adult diabetes care, including type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, diabetes in pregnancy (pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes) and an awareness of other classifications of diabetes.

Using specialist knowledge and advanced clinical skills, you will assess, diagnose, agree, plan, implement and evaluate personalised diabetes and dietetic care plans. You will regularly review and interpret data from continuous glucose monitors to support optimal diabetes management and inform treatment recommendations.

Working autonomously, you will provide one-to-one consultations, empowering patients to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence required to self-manage their diabetes and make sustainable lifestyle changes. You will support patients in achieving their clinical and personal goals through collaborative decision-making and behaviour change approaches.

You will contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives and the ongoing delivery of a high-quality diabetes service, demonstrating a commitment to collaborative working, innovation and continuous professional development

The successful candidate will manage a specialist caseload, providing expert dietetic care across a range of diabetes outpatient clinics, including antenatal diabetes clinics, insulin pump services and general diabetes clinics. You will undertake comprehensive nutritional assessments and deliver evidence-based interventions tailored to individuals with complex medical, nutritional and psychological needs.
