Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and clinically skilled Band 6 Senior Radiographer to join our General X-ray team in an exciting rotational role across our acute hospitals, Community Diagnostic Centre and Community imaging sites (Tewkesbury, Cinderford, North Cotswolds, Tetbury, Cirencester, Stroud, Vale)

This is an excellent opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice with leadership, service improvement and workforce development. As a Band 6 Senior Radiographer, you will be a key member of the team, providing high-quality imaging services while acting as a shift leader, supporting junior colleagues and helping deliver safe, efficient patient care across a variety of clinical settings.

You will work with a wide range of patients, from emergency and trauma imaging in acute settings to supporting local community diagnostic pathways, making a real difference to patient experience and access to services.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Senior Radiographer you will:

  • Perform a broad range of General X-ray examinations, including emergency, inpatient, outpatient and theatre imaging.
  • Act as a senior clinical practitioner, delivering safe, effective and high-quality diagnostic imaging.
  • Lead shifts and support operational flow, prioritising workload and managing capacity pressures.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of anatomy, pathology, image optimisation and patient care.
  • Act as an IR(ME)R Operator, ensuring compliance with legislation and radiation protection requirements.
  • Support and supervise Band 5 Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, apprentices and student radiographers.
  • Contribute to audit, quality improvement and service development initiatives.

-Promote a positive culture of accountability, learning, wellbeing and psychological safety.

  • Support imaging services across acute and community settings through a structured rotational programme.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support timely diagnosis and patient pathways.

The role includes participation in the department's shift system, including evenings, weekends, nights and on-call commitments.

Job description

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration as a Diagnostic Radiographer.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Commitment to maintaining a professional portfolio.

Essential Experience

  • Post-registration experience within an NHS Radiology department.
  • Demonstrable experience in General X-ray imaging.
  • Experience working within acute imaging environments including ED, trauma and inpatient services.
  • Experience working autonomously and making sound clinical decisions.
  • Experience supporting service delivery within a shift-based environment.

Essential Knowledge & Skills

  • High level of clinical competence in General Radiography.
  • Strong understanding of IR(ME)R and radiation protection principles.
  • Ability to lead shifts and coordinate workload effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise and support junior staff and students.
  • Understanding of governance, quality improvement and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise competing demands.

Desirable

  • Teaching, assessing or mentorship qualification.
  • Experience in community imaging settings
  • Participation in audit, service evaluation or quality improvement projects.
  • Experience contributing to workforce planning, skill mix or rota development
