Main duties of the job
You will take responsibility for coordinating and delivering care for a designated group of patients, working with confidence and accountability. As a valued member of the team, you will also support colleagues by delegating appropriate tasks, supervising learners and students, and sharing your knowledge to promote a culture of learning and excellence.
Working collaboratively across the Trust, you will use your strong communication skills to build positive relationships with patients, families and colleagues. You will act as a patient advocate, uphold the NMC Code at all times, and contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical practice in line with Trust values, policies and best practice standards.
Job description
- Act as patient's advocate in promoting, and delivering the highest standard of nursing care, ensuring all fundamentals of care are addressed, and current, relevant policies and procedures are adhered to
- Using evidence-based practice, assess patients' physical, psychological and spiritual needs, create care plans, implement and evaluate nursing care involving patients and carers, as appropriate
- Write reports, record observations and maintain care plans, including electronic data storage; and other appropriate records, accurately, legibly and concisely
- Monitor patients' condition pre-operativley and report observations to relevant health professionals, carrying out nursing interventions as needed. Reporting signs of deterioration to Registered Nurse as appropriate
- Keep patients and carers informed, when appropriate maintaining patient confidentiality
- Care for a group of trauma patients, as allocated by the manager
- Comply with Trust policy for management and administration of medicines.
- Comply with policies for the correct disposal of clinical and other waste, sharps, and soiled linen
- Clean and disinfect equipment as needed
- Help to prevent the spread of infection by adopting infection control measures appropriate to the situation, and participate in educating staff, patients and carers
- Outpatient / Pre-operative assessment / Ward clinical activity
- Perform venepuncture and cannulation
- Undertake visual acuity and other diagnostic related tests
- ECG recording
- Support the Registered Nurses to the plan, implement and evaluate patient care in the outpatient area
- Act as patient chaperone where requested
- Complete triage documentation for review by appropriately trained staff
- Admission of patients and discharges under the instruction of the medical / surgical team
