Job summary

Are you a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse looking for a dynamic and rewarding role? Join our Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU), where no two days are the same and you'll have the opportunity to care for patients across a wide range of surgical specialties.

Our busy 16-bedded unit provides rapid assessment, treatment and ongoing care for patients requiring acute surgical intervention. We care for patients across General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Maxillofacial and Orthopaedic specialties, offering an excellent opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical skills and experience.

Alongside the ward, we operate a Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service, enabling patients to receive timely assessment, investigation and treatment without the need for an overnight stay whenever appropriate. This fast-paced environment requires strong clinical skills, excellent teamwork and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient-centred care.

As part of our dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality care, supporting patients through often complex and challenging circumstances. You'll work closely with surgical teams and allied health professionals to ensure patients receive safe, effective and compassionate care throughout their journey.

Main duties of the job

Acting as a Named Nurse, to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.-

To coordinate the patients' discharge arrangements in accordance with the RUH Discharge Policy.-

To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.

To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified.

To provide information which enables patients to make choices about adopting a healthy lifestyle.

To complete patient documentation to Trust standard.

To maintain a safe ward/department environment.

To assist in establishing and monitoring protocols/care pathways.

To participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication.

To ensure patient confidentiality.
