Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Endoscopy Site Lead who has overall responsibility and accountability for the safe, effective and efficient running of the endoscopy site. This includes operational leadership of the service, oversight of staffing levels, recruitment activity, equipment management and sourcing, stock and consumables, clinical standards, patient safety, governance and compliance with relevant professional, regulatory and organisational requirements.
The post holder will provide strong, visible and compassionate leadership to the endoscopy team, ensuring a positive culture of accountability, quality improvement and professional development. They will work closely with the Lead Nurse, Clinical Services Manager and wider leadership team to ensure policies, guidelines, protocols and best practice standards are implemented consistently across the site.

Job description
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Assume overall responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day operational running, clinical leadership and performance of the endoscopy site.
Lead the delivery of a safe, effective, high quality endoscopy service within agreed operational, financial and regulatory requirements.
Lead a culture of continuous quality improvement, evaluating standards of care, identifying risks and driving improvements in clinical practice, patient experience and service performance.
Provide expert clinical and operational advice to the endoscopy team, ensuring practice is evidence based, aligned to current guidance and delivered consistently across the site.
Help support nursing research and maintain own knowledge, skills, expertise and experience.
Support the lead nurse in the development, maintenance and review of nursing care pathways.
Contribute to, and where appropriate lead, the development and implementation of the Endoscopy Unit philosophy, strategy, policies and standard operating procedures.
Provide strong leadership, supervision, teaching and mentoring for registered nurses, nurse endoscopists, healthcare assistants and support staff, ensuring training, competency and mandatory study requirements are planned and maintained.
Ensure all endoscopy staff receive regular 1:1s, annual appraisals, performance reviews and professional development plans, with clear objectives and follow-up actions.
Lead and support recruitment activity for the endoscopy site, including workforce planning, vacancy identification, shortlisting, interviewing, induction and onboarding of new team members.
Manage HR-related issues in line with organisational policy, escalating where appropriate and ensuring matters such as absence, conduct, capability, probation, wellbeing, return to work processes and performance concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
Ensure the smooth running of the department by taking responsibility for safe staffing, rota planning, skill mix, escalation of workforce gaps and effective deployment of staff across the service.
Maintenance and review of health promotion literature and information for patients.
Lead on the sourcing and procurement of endoscopy equipment, consumables and medical supplies in line with operational need, budgetary requirements and procurement processes.
Take overall responsibility for equipment management, including maintenance schedules, asset tracking, service contracts, fault reporting, replacement planning and ensuring equipment is safe, available and fit for purpose.
Participate and assist with endoscopic procedures.
Liaise with other primary care and secondary care endoscopy units to ensure effective communication and share best practice, ensuring the unit operates in accordance with BSG guidelines.
Help support the lead nurse in establishing effective communication links with other primary care practitioners within the practice and attend appropriate endoscopy meetings.
Liaise with patient services department to organise endoscopy lists and act as a resource for urgent referrals and queries.
To support and participate in the investigation and resolution of complaints and adverse clinical incidents, ensuring appropriate action is taken to prevent recurrence.
To participate in the submission of GRS reports.
