Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Core in Urology with or without Postgraduate Master's Degree at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

There are two posts available:

Post 1 is available to commence from as soon as possible until 02 February 2027.

Post 2 is available to commence from 01 December 2026 until 03 August 2027.

Main duties of the job

The duties of this post includes working within the Department of Urology at Resident Doctor level on a full shift rota (subject to confirmation and change).

Opportunities also exist for assisting in theatre and to be taught to perform minor and intermediate urological procedures. When on-call the post holder will work closely with the on-call Consultant who is freed from all elective activities in order to deal with on-call issues and provide on the job teaching.

In order to be considered applicants must meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification and have:

  • Completion of Foundation Competencies.
  • Previous experience of 6 months employed by the NHS.
  • Previous experience in surgery.
  • Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application.

This post may be suitable for those wishing to undertake an "F3" role.

Job description

This post may be suitable for those wishing to prepare for entry into specialist training at either CT1-2 ST3 level or gain equivalent experience. Previous post holders have successfully entered national training programmes in the UK as well as being successfully matched in the US/Canadian system.

There are a wide range of educational opportunities available including time to attend monthly half day departmental academic meetings, the opportunity to be trained in outpatient and inpatient procedures and to participate in audits and clinical research with the goal of submitting papers for publication.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
