The Richmond Road Partnership are looking to recruit a skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our award-winning practices based in Hackney and Wanstead.

You will work closely with our Lead GP and Clinical Pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients. In addition, you will provide technical and administrative support to the Clinical Pharmacists and Clinicians as well as coordinating discharge summaries and medication reviews, playing a central role in repeat prescribing processes, liaising with our patients, carers, hospital and community pharmacies, responding to medication queries and updating medical records.

Main duties of the job

Support the effective management and safe operation of the practice repeat prescribing system and associated prescribing processes

Promote cost-effective use of medicines and minimise medicines waste

Support the practices High-Risk Drug Monitoring (HRDM) protocol

Ensure administrative work is completed in order to achieve and implement prescribing initiatives

Be a reliable, trained and informed resource to answer medicines related administrative queries

Promote the safe and effective use of medicines and support the provision of appropriate patient information, in line with local pharmacy and medicines optimisation guidance

Provide patient counselling and advice on the safe and effective use of medicines, within scope of practice, referring complex or clinical queries to the appropriate clinician

Supervise train and update practice receptionists dealing with all aspects of repeat prescribing, making the best use of their skills

Become a point of contact within and outside the surgery for all who deal with medicines related issues

To develop effective relationships with local Community Pharmacies in relation to medicines management - measured by increased quality of liaison

Job description

Works with PCN and ICB Pharmacists, PCN Pharmacy Technicians, GP Prescribing Leads and other GP staff and is required to:

  • Support the effective management and safe operation of the practice repeat prescribing system and associated prescribing processes
  • Promote cost-effective use of medicines and minimise medicines waste
  • Carry out medication reconciliation following hospital discharge and other transfers of care, including for newly registered patients, to ensure medication records are accurate and up to date
  • Support in High Risk Drug Monitoring process of the practice
  • Ensure Administrative work is completed in order to achieve and implement prescribing initiatives
  • Be a reliable, trained and informed resource to answer medicines related administrative queries
  • Promote the safe and effective use of medicines and support the provision of appropriate patient information, in line with local pharmacy and medicines optimisation guidance
  • Supervise train and update practice receptionists dealing with all aspects of repeat prescribing, making the best use of their skills
  • Support the checking of competency of the above staff on an annual basis
  • Become a point of contact within and outside the surgery for all who deal with medicines related issues
  • Develop effective relationships with local Community Pharmacies in relation to medicines management (measured by increased quality of liaison)
  • Participate in practice-based audits and quality improvement initiatives, supporting data collection, review and implementation of actions as required
  • Support the practice in responding to MHRA and CAS alerts, medicines recalls and other medicines safety communications
  • Support the management of shared care arrangements with specialist providers, ensuring relevant documentation, monitoring and communication are maintained in accordance with practice protocols
  • Identify patients who may benefit from medication reviews and support the booking and coordination of appointments with the appropriate clinician
  • Support the practice in delivering relevant QOF, QIPP and locally commissioned enhanced services
