Job summary

Are you looking for a new challenge within a dynamic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service that is currently transforming its Getting Help offer?

We are recruiting two Children's Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs) to join the Buckinghamshire CAMHS Targeted Team. The two vacancies comprise one full-time substantive role and one fixed-term maternity cover position until 30 August 2027.

A Children's Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) is a highly specialist role in a CAMHS team. The role is pivotal to enhancing accessibility to CAMHS by delivering low-intensity psychological interventions for mild to moderate low mood and anxiety disorders. The national Children and Young People's Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) programme was developed following recommendations made in 'Implementing the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health' plan, to provide evidence-based interventions for children and young people.

With a big national focus on improving services for children and young people's mental health and wellbeing, there has never been a better time to join Oxford Health CAMHS and make a positive difference to children and young people's lives.

Main duties of the job

The role is pivotal to enhancing accessibility to the Getting Help Targeted pathway in CAMHS by delivering low-intensity psychological interventions for mild to moderate low mood and anxiety disorders.

You will be expected to undertake mental health assessments of children, involving families and carers where required. This will include completing risk assessments, care plans, and GP letters, as well as liaising with other agencies such as social care and schools.

You will provide one-to-one, CBT-informed, evidence-based interventions to children and their families, both remotely and face to face across a range of community bases. There will also be opportunities to deliver CBT-informed group interventions.

This role will require you to travel between community locations, you must therefore be comfortable and able to travel freely within the hours of the role. The ability to travel independently between sites within the Trust is essential for this role.

Job description

The post-holders will work within the Targeted Team in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, providing high-volume, low-intensity interventions. The roles are hybrid, meaning clinical work can take place in schools, at the clinic base and, on occasion, remotely.

The post-holders will offer a range of low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)-based treatments, alongside assisted self-management interventions for young people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and depression. They will also offer parent-led interventions focused on addressing challenging behaviour and childhood anxiety.

The roles will involve working closely with children, young people, families, and education settings. The post-holders will have opportunities to develop their skills in working with schools and contributing to a whole-community approach.

The roles are pivotal in enhancing accessibility to CAMHS by delivering low-intensity psychological interventions for mild to moderate low mood and anxiety disorders, as well as assessing the mental health needs of children and young people.
