Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Interventional Radiology & Cardiac Cath Lab Radiographer to join our expanding team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Working across our modern Interventional Radiology suites, Cardiac Cath Labs and Hybrid Theatre environments, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality imaging support for a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

This position offers the opportunity to work alongside Consultant Interventional Radiologists, Cardiologists, specialist nurses and multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced and rewarding clinical environment. We are seeking a radiographer who is passionate about patient care, committed to professional development and keen to contribute to service innovation and improvement.

The successful candidate will be supported to develop specialist skills in vascular, oncology, hepatobiliary, cardiac and emergency interventions whilst also contributing to education, governance and service development activities.

Main duties of the job

Interventional and Cardiac Cath Lab Radiography.

The post holder will be an experienced HCPC-registered Diagnostic Radiographer who undertakes a specialist clinical role within Interventional Radiology and Image Guided Interventional Services. They will deliver high-quality, safe and effective interventional imaging in a fast-paced, high-risk clinical environment, working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside Consultant Interventional Radiologists, nursing staff and other clinical colleagues.

The role requires advanced technical expertise, sound clinical judgement, excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to patient-centred care, radiation safety and continuous service improvement. The post holder will act as a role model for professional practice and contribute to service resilience, education and governance across IR services.

Job description

  • Deliver high-quality imaging during a wide range of interventional and cardiac procedures.
  • Operate fluoroscopy and angiography equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist Consultants and clinical teams during complex interventional procedures.
  • Support patient preparation, positioning, monitoring and aftercare.
  • Ensure compliance with IR(ME)R regulations, radiation protection standards and local policies.
  • Act as a senior radiographer within the department, coordinating workflow and supporting patient flow.
  • Participate in the education, supervision and competency assessment of students and junior staff.
  • Contribute to clinical audit, governance, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
  • Support cross-site working and rotational practice where required.
  • Participate in the departmental out-of-hours and on-call service.
