Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our expanding and innovative Perioperative Care Team. The successful post holder will work within the perioperative care service, helping to ensure that patients are fully optimised prior to surgery. This role plays a key part in improving patient experience, reducing perioperative risk, and supporting the reduction of elective surgery waiting times.

The Perioperative Care Service at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) comprises:

Surgical Pre-AssessmentPerioperative Anaemia ServiceCardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET)Prehabilitation ServicesShared Decision-Making Clinics

In addition, the service delivers a range of early screening programmes, providing opportunities for patients to be optimised well in advance of surgery and appropriately triaged for outsourcing where suitable.

The primary focus of this role will initially be within Surgical Pre-Assessment. Nurses appointed to this position will undertake a comprehensive training programme, including completion of the History Taking and Physical Assessment Course. Following successful completion of the required training and competencies, candidates will progress to become a Band 6 Nurse Practitioner.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, motivated and patient-focused nurse looking to develop advanced clinical skills within a supportive and forward-thinking perioperative service.
