Support Worker - Adult Mental HealthCouncil

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council L20 3NJ Contract Grade F SCP 12-19, £28,598 - £32,061 per annum (pay award pending)
Posted 16 September 2026 Closing date 5 October 2026

About the Role

Fixed Term Until 31/10/2027

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Adult Community Mental Health Teams within Sefton as a Support Worker. These are full-time posts working 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The role offers 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Base: Community Mental Health Team North and South Sefton, providing a borough-wide service. The role will involve working across our bases and surrounding areas, as well as supporting people within their own homes and local communities.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in mental health. Our teams work with adults experiencing severe and enduring mental ill health, often alongside co-existing issues such as substance misuse and other complex needs, which can impact confidence, independence and the ability to carry out day-to-day activities.

You will manage a small caseload and deliver short-term, task-centred interventions designed to support individuals to build confidence, maximise independence, and maintain choice and control over their lives. The role focuses on supporting people to achieve positive outcomes and improve their wellbeing within their local community.

As part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will receive regular supervision, guidance and support from experienced Social Work Managers and other qualified professionals.

Ideally, you will have experience of working within a care, support or mental health setting and hold an NVQ in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification). However, we are committed to supporting staff development and ongoing training opportunities will be available to enhance your existing skills and develop new ones.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role involves working directly with vulnerable adults and collaborating with a range of health and social care professionals across partner agencies.

To be shortlisted for interview, you will need to demonstrate how you meet each of the essential and desirable criteria outlined in the Person Specification.

As part of Sefton Council's safer recruitment process, references will be requested for candidates who are offered a post. This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

If you are passionate about supporting people with mental health needs to live independently and achieve their goals, we would welcome your application.

Closing Date 5th October 2026

Interview Date to be arrange on or around Early October 2026. Interview is in person.
