Job summary

The Sandwell and West Birmingham Bowel Cancer Screening Programme isseeking to recruit a full time Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSPs) tojoin our team.

The bowel screening service addresses the needs of individuals currentlyaged between 50 and 75 who have an abnormal test result from ahome screening kit.

SSPs are expected to work autonomously in guiding patients to makeinformed decisions at all stages of the screening pathway, whilstadhering to Trust and Bowel cancer screening policies and protocols.

Applicants must be a registered general nurse with appropriateknowledge and experience. Specific training will be provided. Ourprogramme delivers screening services from three hospital sites: Sandwell Health Campus, Birmingham Treatment Centre, and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Travelling between sites will be required, so afull driving license would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

You will take overall responsibility for patients within the bowelscreening programme ensuring they are appropriately assessed, management plans are in place and the care they receive is effective,compassionate and of the best quality. The post holder will be expectedto work autonomously as a Specialist Screening Practitioner for theBowel Cancer Screening Programme while collaborating appropriately with members of the multi-disciplinary team and staff at other sites,ensuring that the screening population of Sandwell and West Birminghamreceive an equal and diverse Bowel Cancer Screening Service.

This role is part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and subject tosignificant national audit, therefore it requires good IT skills andattention to detail. Specific training and induction is provided, along with mandatory attendance at university for the completion of theSpecialist Screening Practitioner module at level 6/7.
