Do you enjoy talking to people, helping them make positive changes and finding practical solutions to improve their health?

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council's Health & Wellbeing Team is looking for a highly organised, enthusiastic and empathetic Wellbeing Service Hub Advisor to join our small, friendly team.

About us

Our ambition is for the people of Blackburn with Darwen to stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible. We're a collaborative team who value being able to share ideas, problem-solve and support each other in real time. For this reason, the Health & Wellbeing Team works office-based, with the same approach across all the roles in the team to support effective teamwork and fairness.

We are a healthy lifestyles and prevention service, supporting people with areas including physical activity, healthy eating, weight management, stopping smoking, NHS Health Checks and wider wellbeing (including wellbeing at work). We work closely with health professionals, partners and our communities to make healthy lifestyles accessible to everyone and help reduce health inequalities.

We believe that people have untapped strengths and resources within them. Our role is to provide high-quality, non-judgemental support that helps people recognise those strengths and take the next step that is right for them.

We support our team to develop their skills and knowledge through training and learning opportunities and encourage people to bring new ideas and approaches to their work.

Find out more about the Health & Wellbeing Team here on our website (www.refreshbwd.com), and by viewing this short video:

About the role

As a Wellbeing Hub Advisor, you'll be at the heart of our service and the first point of contact for many people accessing our service.

You'll receive referrals from health professionals and wider partners, as well as telephone and web enquiries from members of the public. You'll listen to people, understand their circumstances and use your knowledge of our services to help them find the right support.

No two days are necessarily the same. You could be helping someone find a local exercise opportunity, access a healthy weight programme, stop smoking, arrange an NHS Health Check or connect with a community service.

Accurate record keeping is an important part of the role. You'll use our online client management system to record every contact with a person, including enquiries, conversations, referrals and outcomes, ensuring information is accurate, up to date and handled confidentially.

The Hub can be busy, so you'll need to be comfortable managing competing priorities, working independently and using your judgement while knowing when to ask for support.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

  • enjoys talking to people and building rapport quickly
  • listens without judgement and is genuinely interested in understanding people's circumstances
  • is confident using IT systems and understands the importance of accurate, timely and confidential record keeping
  • can communicate clearly and sensitively with members of the public and professionals
  • is organised and able to manage competing priorities
  • is able to maintain accurate records and follow agreed processes
  • can work confidently both independently and as part of a small team
  • is comfortable using their initiative and making decisions within their role
  • is approachable, reliable and committed to providing a positive experience for the people who contact our service.

You don't need to have worked in a health and wellbeing service before. We are interested in the skills, values and approach you can bring to the role.

The ability to speak a community language is desirable and would help us make our services more accessible to the diverse communities we serve.

Please see the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of the role and requirements.

Please note that your application needs to evidence the requirements of the role and must be accompanied by a supporting statement outlining how you meet the essential/desirable criteria in the Person Specification of the post.

Previous applicants need not apply.
