Are you a passionate Environmental Health professional looking to make a lasting impact on local communities? We are seeking an  Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Protection  Team. In this role, you will provide technical and professional expertise  across a diverse range of environmental protection functions.

You will develop specialist expertise in one or more areas of environmental protection to ensure our service aligns with council vision, statutory legislation, and performance targets. 

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver a comprehensive, high-quality Environmental Protection Service in line with national legislation, council policies, and service standards.
• Develop and apply specialist knowledge in specific environmental fields (contaminated land, air pollution, noise control) to support team development and robust enforcement.
• Take the professional and technical lead on environmental protection investigations, including statutory nuisances, industrial pollution, and planning consultations.
• Inspect premises, gather evidence, serve statutory notices, and prepare legal files for prosecution to protect public health and the environment.
• Act as the professional lead for the team on complex environmental protection cases and project delivery.

What We Are Looking For

• Qualifications: A Diploma or Degree (BSc/MSc) in Environmental Health, registration with the CIEH (Professional Register) or EHRB.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support an open, collaborative team environment.

• Experience investigating complex statutory nuisance and air quality issues.
• Experience of gathering evidence, serving notices, and preparing files for legal prosecution.
• Up to date knowledge of national environmental legislation and statutory guidance.
• A valid driving licence and access to personal transport for work-related duties. You must also be flexible to work occasional evenings or weekends and respond to emergency planning incidents if required.
