Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Sonographer to join our friendly and expanding ultrasound service. You will become an integral part of a highly skilled and collaborative team, working alongside experienced radiologists, specialist MSK sonographers, Healthcare Assistants and Radiology Department Assistants to deliver outstanding patient care.

This varied and rewarding role offers the opportunity to rotate across all areas of our ultrasound service, including the General Radiology Department, Same Day Emergency Centre and our Community Hospitals. You will independently perform and report a wide range of examinations, providing expert clinical care and contributing to excellent patient outcomes.

Applicants must hold the relevant ultrasound qualification (DMU/PgC/PgD in Medical Ultrasound) and be registered with the HCPC.

Main duties of the job

Our diverse ultrasound service includes abdominal, gynaecological, paediatric, small parts, MSK, selected vascular examinations. We are proud to support several one-stop clinics, helping to ensure patients receive timely, efficient and high-quality care. The department also plays an active role in student education and training, supporting the next generation of sonographers.

Our modern, well-equipped ultrasound departments feature state-of-the-art technology, including GE Logic 10 ultrasound systems across our radiology and community sites. Our community ultrasound services extend to Cranleigh, Haslemere and Milford Hospitals, providing excellent care closer to patients' homes.

Job description

The post holder will provide a high-quality, patient-focused diagnostic ultrasound service, performing and independently reporting a wide range of ultrasound examinations within their scope of practice. Working autonomously, the Sonographer will use advanced clinical knowledge and judgement to produce accurate diagnostic reports that support timely clinical decision-making and patient management.

The post holder will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver a responsive, efficient and compassionate imaging service, maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice, patient safety and professional conduct.

The Ultrasound Service operates across four Trust sites and provides a 7-day service. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across all designated locations and participate in a shift-based rota, including weekends, extended days and bank holidays where required to meet service demands.

The post holder will also contribute to service development, education, quality improvement, audit and clinical governance initiatives.
