Job summary

Powys Teaching Health Board is seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly motivated Suicide Prevention and Postvention Coordinator to join our innovative Suicide Prevention and Postvention Service.This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in reducing suicide and supporting individuals, families and communities affected by suicide across Powys.Working within a specialist team, you will provide timely postvention support following suspected suicides and contribute to the delivery of targeted suicide prevention initiatives in line with the Powys Suicide Prevention Strategy.We are looking for an individual who:o Is passionate about suicide prevention and improving mental health outcomes.o Has experience working with vulnerable individuals, families or communities.o Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.o Can work independently and manage a varied workload across a large geographical area.o Has experience of partnership working across agencies and organisations.when supporting people affected by distressing circumstances.o Is committed to reducing stigma and promoting hope and recovery.You should have relevant experience within mental health, or a related field.A strong understanding of suicide prevention, bereavement support, trauma-informed practice and community engagement.

Main duties of the job

The Suicide Prevention and Postvention Coordinator is a key operational role responsible for delivering evidence-based postvention and suicide prevention activities across Powys.

Your work will include:o Providing a coordinated and compassionate response following suspected suicides.o Supporting individuals, families, communities and professionals affected by suicide.o Liaising with statutory, voluntary and community sector partners.o Delivering psychoeducational and awareness-raising activities.o Supporting the implementation of the Powys Suicide Prevention Strategy.o Identifying opportunities for targeted suicide prevention interventions.o Facilitating community engagement and partnership working.o Contributing to service development, quality improvement and evaluation activities.o Providing advice and guidance to professionals and community groups.This is a varied and rewarding role that requires sensitivity, resilience and excellent relationship-building skills.

We would particularly welcome applications from Welsh speakers; but even if you don't speak any Welsh, or want to develop your skills, don't worry: the health board will support you with training.
