Karis Medical Centre is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity to join our expanding team as a Band 2 Phlebotomist.

We are looking for a motivated and reliable individual with practical phlebotomy experience to provide a high-quality service to our patients. Previous experience working within General Practice is desirable but not essential, as full support and induction will be provided.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience carrying out phlebotomy procedures independently.
  • Excellent communication and patient care skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within a General Practice setting.
  • Familiarity with primary care systems and processes.

Please note that practical phlebotomy experience is essential for this role. Completion of phlebotomy training alone, without hands-on experience, will not be sufficient.

Job Type Part Time

Expected hours- 26 per week

Main duties of the job

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The phlebotomist will deliver and assist clinical staff in providing treatment, preventive care, health promotion, and patient education.

Delivering a phlebotomy service, including home visits where required

Blood pressure recording.

Measuring weight and height (BMI)and offering lifestyle advice where appropriate

Collection of urine specimens

Injections Vitamin B12 injections

Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined or treated by another clinician

Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nursing team

Fridge monitoring, maintain cold chain and adhering to policy.

Participation in administrative systems in the Practice

At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records

Attend and participate in Practice meetings

Have a sound knowledge of the Practices infection control policy

Job description

The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Primary Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Undertake new patient health checks

Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Act as a chaperone as required

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
