Job summary

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic multi-agency integrated team, providing specialist safeguarding support to all clinicians - supervision, advice, guidance and training relating to the safeguarding agenda, along side a predominant Mash role - assessing notifications and referrals regarding children aged 0-18 that are received by the MASH. The MASH process includes researching and collating health information from a range of NHS providers both locally and Nationally. With due regard to patient confidentiality, the post holder needs to interpret and share the information that is necessary to safeguard and/or promote the welfare of a child. The MASH has been designed to facilitate information gathering and sharing within a fire-walled environment. The Local Authority hold the statutory responsibility for the management of notifications and referrals, but the decision and planning required to inform the outcome of the notification or referral is made by the integrated MASH team. This type of multi-agency co-operation is a statutory duty of all professionals delivering care to children and families. The post holder will work closely with all levels of staff in other statutory and voluntary agencies in order to continue to develop a seamless service for children and families.

Main duties of the job

The role involves active participation in multi-agency safeguarding processes, mainly the Enfield Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), where the nurse contributes to information sharing, risk assessment, and joint decision-making. They are a key health representative and decision-maker in multidisciplinary work.

The Safeguarding Specialist Nurse/MASH Health Representative plays a key leadership role in supporting staff with complex safeguarding cases by providing expert advice, supervision, and training.

They act as a critical point of professional oversight, offering direction, scrutiny, challenge, and escalation where required to ensure safe and effective practice.

Additional responsibilities include supporting community staff with legal statements for care proceedings, contributing to safeguarding audits and reviews, and attending relevant internal and external meetings. Overall, the postholder ensures high-quality safeguarding practice through collaboration, expert guidance, and accountability.
