Job summary
Barts Health is looking for a fixed term (12 months) Consultant Vascular surgeon who will be predominantly based at the Royal London Hospital site with responsibilities across the Trust hospitals sites.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. There is an expectation that the surgeon will develop their subspecialty interest. She/he will need to agree levels of activity and throughput with the Clinical Lead for Vascular Surgery.
The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the Trust's policy on Maintaining Medical Excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date.
Main duties of the job
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based vascular surgical care to elective and emergency patients.
- Assess, diagnose and manage patients requiring vascular surgery, including endovascular procedures.
- Undertake vascular operating in hybrid and main theatres.
- Participate in the Vascular Surgeon of the Week rota (1:8), including consultant-led ward rounds, CEPOD support and supervision of junior staff.
- Deliver services across Barts Health sites, including The Royal London, Whipps Cross, St Bartholomew's, Mile End and Newham Hospitals.
- Support the development of vascular and peripheral endovascular services.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, General Practitioners and Interventional Radiology colleagues to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Review referrals and respond to Advice and Guidance requests.
- Teach, supervise and support doctors in training and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and departmental management.
