Job summary
We have two posts for the role of Respiratory Faster Diagnosis Clinical Nurse Specialist, with a focus to support and lead on the national lung cancer screening programme.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Respiratory Team within ESHT to support the suspected lung cancer pathway patients. The post holder will require excellent communication skills to develop highly effective working relationships. This post will be part of the close working Respiratory team to include Consultants, Respiratory / Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists, Diagnostic Teams, Service Managers and Patient Pathway Trackers.
The applicant must be enthusiastic and self-motivated and be able to work in a busy and at times demanding environment, helping to deliver waiting time standards and enhancing patient experience.
Main duties of the job
This position is focused on fulfilling the Responsible Assessor (RA) role for the NHS Lung Cancer Screening Programme within the Faster Diagnostic Service at ESHT.The post holder will provide clinical oversight of the screening pathway, attending weekly Screening Review Meetings (SRMs) to support clinical decision-making and ensure patients progress safely through the programme.Responsibilities include communicating with patients via letter and phone, managing incidental findings identified on screening CT scans, completing onward referrals to relevant specialties on BigHand, undertaking quality assurance and audit activities, maintaining clinical oversight of those excluded from the programme, supporting NHSE reporting requirements, and contributing to service development and patient engagement initiatives.The successful postholder will be a highly organised and motivated nurse with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be IT literate and comfortable undertaking a significant administrative workload, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities. The postholder will be able to work autonomously, exercising sound clinical judgement and decision-making, while also working collaboratively as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of a high-quality Lung Cancer Screening Service. Previous or current experience within respiratory medicine and/or oncology, together with an understanding of cancer pathways and diagnostic services, would be advantageous and support effective delivery of the role though is not compulsory.
