We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our Planned Care team at HMP Thameside, a category B prison located in London.

HMP Thameside is a busy male resettlement prison with a capacity for 1232 inmates. We are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to support the wider healthcare team.  Hours

Day shifts 0730 - 1800 Rota basis - You will be required to work weekends.  37.5 hours per week Salary This position is full time, youll receive an annual salary up to £32,134 per annum

Main duties of the job

As our new Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings
  • Facilitate clinics, including bloods, observations (obs), ECGs, NHS Health checks etc
  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages
  • Support the nursing team with all aspects of care
  • Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
  • Support receptions (new patients entering the prison) and assist with triaging new patients
  • You will primarily be working within the Planned Care team.

  • Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate
  • Have experience within phlebotomy - this is highly desirable!
  • Have experience in a clinical care setting previously - ideally from a hospital or prison setting
  • Have clinical experience - venepuncture, ECGs etc
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
