We have 6 Health Visitor SCPHN student posts available across Surrey, leading to a Master's level qualification. The course is delivered through Oxford Brookes University and combines online distance learning with supervised practice placements. As a student, you will apply theoretical knowledge in practice placements to develop high-quality, evidence-based assessment and care. You will also work with families to identify health needs and safeguard children. Successful applicants will start in January 2027, subject to a safer recruitment process, including criminal records disclosure.

About the CourseThe SCPHN programme at Oxford Brookes University is a Master's level course (PG Dip / MSc) and is available on both a full-time and part-time basis. The course combines online distance learning with supervised practice placements:

  • Online distance learning - 2 days per week (theoretical and academic component)
  • Practice placement - 3 days per week (clinical learning and hands-on experience)
  • The 50/50 split of theory and practice ensures you develop both academic and clinical skills
  • Upon completion you will be registered as a SCPHN and eligible to apply for Band 6 Health Visitor role

Entry RequirementsTo be considered for a student post you must meet the following criteria:

Essential:

  • Registered with the NMC as a Nurse or Midwife
  • UK resident
  • Demonstrate either: achievement of an undergraduate degree OR completion of a Diploma in Nursing
  • A full UK driving licence is required

Desirable:

  • Completion of a recent Level 6 (or above) module

Main ResponsibilitiesAs a Student SCPHN Health Visitor you will play a vital role in ensuring that every child gets the best possible start in life, developing the skills to lead the Healthy Child Programme.

  • Work with families to identify health needs in children 0-4 years as early as possible
  • Apply theoretical knowledge to practice placements to develop high-quality, evidence-based assessment and care
  • Safeguard and protect children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • Travel across Surrey to meet both educational and clinical requirements of the course
