Job Description:

Main duties and responsibilities

De Montfort University (DMU) is a forward‑thinking institution driven by innovation, inclusion and a commitment to delivering outstanding digital services. Since launching our Digital Transformation Strategy in 2022, we have modernised core infrastructure, embedded user‑centred design and laid the foundations for a more agile university. With significant transformation still ahead, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful change that benefits students, staff and the wider university community.

Directorate

The Digital and Technology Directorate sits at the heart of DMU’s digital transformation. Through cloud adoption, reducing technical debt and introducing a product operating model, we deliver resilient, user‑focused services that enable innovation across AI, automation, endpoint management and cyber security. Our mission is to provide secure, streamlined, future‑ready digital services that support excellence across the university.

Senior Cyber Security Analyst

We are seeking a proactive Senior Cyber Security Analyst to help protect the university’s systems, services, data and cloud environments. You will lead the detection, investigation and response to cyber threats, strengthen security controls, manage cyber risks and support the secure delivery of digital services. Working across technical and business teams, you will ensure security is embedded into projects, operations and service delivery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

You will:

Lead investigation, containment and response to cyber security incidents.

Identify, assess and mitigate threats and vulnerabilities.

Manage and optimise security tools and controls, including EDR and vulnerability management platforms.

Monitor the evolving threat landscape and recommend improvements.

Provide cyber security guidance to projects, services and operational teams.

Support risk management, assurance, audit and compliance activities.

Develop and maintain incident response processes and procedures.

Lead security awareness initiatives, including phishing simulations.

Enhance monitoring, detection and response capabilities.

Contribute to cyber security policies, standards and governance.

Support infrastructure, cloud and application security initiatives.

Team Structure

You will report to the Cyber Security Operations & Governance Lead and work alongside security specialists, architects and stakeholders from across the university. The team promotes collaboration, continuous improvement and professional development.

About You

You will have substantial hands‑on cyber security experience and the ability to work independently on complex security challenges. You will bring:

Experience in incident detection, investigation, response and recovery.

Strong knowledge of security technologies, cloud platforms and security architecture.

Experience in vulnerability management, threat intelligence and security improvement activities.

The ability to assess and communicate cyber risk effectively.
