Job summary
We are pleased to offer TWO rare and exciting rotational pharmacist positions providing clinical pharmacist input to inpatient wards across Exeter and Langdon (Dawlish) localities.
The postholder will be supported by Clinical Pharmacists and Senior Clinical Pharmacists and over the duration of the rotations will gain experience in the following areas:
Adult acute mental health
Psychiatric intensive care
Rehabilitation
Older peoples mental health (including dementia)
Secure services (including low and medium security)
Eating disorders
Perinatal
The postholder will have close clinical support via regular managerial and clinical supervision with their line manager, access to an array of friendly, experienced and supportive pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across the Trust as well as a variety of networks including a regular pharmacy peer group. The postholder will be encouraged and supported to complete relevant post-graduate qualifications (including independent prescribing if not already obtained) as they gain experience within their role. The Foundation Pharmacist Programme Framework will be utilised to support personal development in a structured way.

Main duties of the job
Working closely with the Clinical Pharmacists, Senior Clinical Pharmacists, Clinical Pharmacy Technicians and Medicines Optimisation Technicians, the Rotational Pharmacist postholders will form an essential part of the clinical pharmacy service across Langdon and Exeter inpatient wards.
Piloting a new structure across both Exeter and Langdon inpatient wards, the postholder will oversee a number of wards and services, providing pharmacist support through answering clinical queries, carrying out medicines reconciliations, clinically assessing and screening an array of inpatient prescriptions, including short-term leave and discharge prescriptions on the Trusts electronic prescribing and administration system as well as liaising with supplying pharmacies.
Under the support of Clinical Pharmacists, the postholder will also have dedicated clinical time to attend targeted multi-disciplinary team meetings, including ward rounds and risk review meetings, speak to patients, carers and relatives to provide counselling on complex medication regimes and critical medicines such as antipsychotics, including high doses, clozapine and depots and mood stabilisers, including lithium and valproate.
The Rotational Pharmacist positions are aimed at dedicated and enthusiastic clinicians wanting to gain experience within mental health, neurodiversity and learning disabilities, with a view of developing into specialist mental health pharmacists.
