Job summary

We have a vacancy for a Salaried GP to join our team due to a growing list size.

Initially the post would be for a 7 month fixed term contract which will be reviewed prior to the 7 month contract end date with potential to extend and increase session numbers.

There is flexibility with working hours throughout the week in conjunction with the rest of the team. Ideally, we are looking for 6 clinical hours per week plus an additional 2 hours for other areas such as admin and patient home visits. UK eligibility to work is a requirement.

The offer of any role is subject to a six-month probationary period during which regular reviews will be conducted by one of the partners.

Candidates will be short-listed and invited for an interview and selection process.

Initial interviews will be held shortly after the closing date. Successful first interview candidates will be invited to attend a second interview.

There is a requirement for at least one session to be worked on a Thursday evening, the other session can be flexible.

To be familiar with Good Medical Practice and follow the guidance it contains as directed by the General Medical Council.

  • To work as a member of the multidisciplinary Practice team to provide general medical services. The post holder will manage a busy caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting.
  • To help ensure the Practice provides the highest standards of care for all registered patients.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to undertake the usual duties associated with a GP working in primary care. In accordance with the Practice consulting schedule, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including f2f and telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, checking/signing prescriptions, patient test results, patient medical reports and examinations (e.g. ins companies) and letters on behalf of the practice.

  • Making professional decisions in relation to presenting problems, either self-referred or referred from other health care workers.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Cover all clinical management of the patients in the surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results and making referrals to secondary care or to other appropriate providers.
  • Develop treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols as well as wider guidance such as that from NICE.
  • Recording clear consultation notes to agreed standards and follow up when appropriate.
  • Making referrals to other health care providers in line with national and local guidelines and pathways.
  • Prescribing in accordance with locally/national agreed guidelines.
  • Work with other members of the primary health care team in delivering high quality primary care.
  • Play a role in the practice achieving agreed QOF and other key performance indicator targets.

The post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. The following list is not exhaustive:

In accordance with the Practice consulting schedule, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, patient medical reports and examinations (e.g. insurance companies) and letters on behalf of the practice.

  • Making professional decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Cover all clinical management of the patients in the surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results and making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate.

  • Ensure appropriate follow up of patients.

  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Making referrals to other health care providers in line with national and local guidelines and pathways.
  • Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.
  • Work with other members of the primary health care team in delivering high quality primary care.
  • Play a role in the practice achieving agreed QOF and other key performance indicator targets.

In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.

  • As a GP you will have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers. You may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.
  • Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
  • Awareness of and compliance with Practice confidentiality, IT and data security policies.

Health and Safety

Use appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.

  • Report potential risks identified.
  • To work in a safe manner at all times and to comply with the organisations operational health and safety policies and procedures including those relating to infection control.

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the Practice, and will:

Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.

  • Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision.

About us

We are a busy GP practice with a patient list size of approx. 6600 patients and growing.

We are a friendly and supportive practice of 5 GPs, 2 practice nurses, 1 Advanced nurse practitioner, 1 health care assistant and a team of pharmacists, in addition to a multi-skilled reception team that offer our patients a range of support.

We use the systmone clinical system.

We pride ourselves on delivering excellent care to our local population and bringing out the best in our team and our team centered approach includes team meetings, a range of clinical and non-clinical meetings.
