Job summary
We are seeking two outstanding clinicians to complement the current respiratory service at QEH UHBFT that comprises 20+ consultant respiratory physicians and consultant clinical scientists across several sub speciality teams and across the city. The service has strong MDT bases that provide regional services in Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), Lung Transplantation, Severe Asthma, Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Bronchiectasis, Pleural Diseases and Sleep & ventilation. Teams are supported by Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychologists. The Trust provides Lung Cancer Services in conjunction with one of the largest Thoracic Surgery units in the country supported by a team of Lung Cancer nurses and MDT co-ordinators. There are state of the art lung function and sleep services including Polysomnography and well-established Endobronchial Ultrasound and local anaesthetic thoracoscopy services.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for inpatients on ward 513, 515 and/or 516 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham plus a cohort of General Medical outliers in a Physician of the Week model and including rostered weekend ward rounds. They will also contribute to an out of hours telephone Non-invasive Ventilation (NIV) on-call rota. The post holders will provide Respiratory Out-Patient Clinics plus other Direct Clinical Care as detailed in the Outline Job plan at the end of this document.
Please note that due to the changing needs of the service the post holders may be required to adopt a flexible approach together with the other consultant members of the respiratory team.

Leadership of a team of trainee doctors caring for inpatients on respiratory and allocated outlying wards
Taking a significant role in Clinical Governance within the respiratory department.
Deputise for colleagues including covering for absence on leave and short notice cover in exceptional circumstances.

Develop and maintain a positive, focused and patient led team culture.
Manage the performance of staff, through coaching and mentoring to enhance their potential and take action to improve poor performance when necessary.
To have individual annual appraisals against objectives aligned to Job Plan.
Review job descriptions on a regular basis to reflect changes to roles.
Ensure that all staff effectively manage the Trust's HR policies and practices and employment legislation
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
The post holders must have well-developed listening and communication skills and be able to deal effectively with a wide range of clinicians, managers and professionals both within and outside the Trust.
The post holders must have well-developed presentational skills, good report writing skills and make effective use of presentation aids.

Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement, developing and contributing to service developments and the formulation of business cases to support these.
Effectively plan, communicate and execute change.
