Job summary
This training will take place over a fixed term employment contract for 18 months working 37.5 hours per week.
This apprenticeship is a work-based learning programme, at the end of which the students are expected to achieve the Science Manufacturing Process Operative (SMPO) Apprenticeship Standard, a Level 2 approved General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) qualification. Built into the qualification, is the Open Awards Level 2 Certificate in Principles and Practices for Pharmaceutical Technical Services (RQF).
Main duties of the job
Completion of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Pharmacy competency training package, as follows:
o Preparing documentation for batch medicinal products.
o Preparing trays according to the worksheet, filling in relevant manufacturer, batch number and expiry date.
o Preparing, processing and packing aseptically prepared medicinal products in accordance with approved worksheets and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
o Stock control training plan and competency.
o Labelling and dispensing training plan and competency.
o Controlled Drug Total Preparation
o Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) preparation
To undertake transfer disinfection of materials into and within the aseptic unit and the isolators; visually inspect/volume accuracy check batches prepared in the aseptic unit to ensure they are free of particulate contamination and meet the required standards.
To undertake daily recording of temperature/pressure readings and manometer panel of the aseptic unit as per SOPs.
To undertake environmental monitoring using the appropriate equipment following SOPs.
To assist in maintenance and cleaning of facilities and equipment within the aseptic unit in line with SOPs.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 18 months due to this being an apprenticeship/training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.
A learner/applicant must be a UK, EEA, or EU resident for at least the past three years to undertake an apprenticeship training programme.
Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.
The apprentice allowance as specified in the Minimum Wage Regulations will be paid for the first 12 months. The rate will increase after 12 months in line with these regulations for anyone that is age 19 or over.
