Managing Demand optimisation in network Microbiology Laboratory to deliver optimal and efficient Leeds infection service

INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD: Thursday 15 October 2026

Why you should join our Team The LTHT Microbiology Department is now one of the largest in the UK, processing ~1 million specimens per year. Microbiology Department is a discrete laboratory and clinical service that sits within the Pathology Clinical Services Unit (CSU). We are delighted to announce that Microbiology services are now based at the Centre for Laboratory Medicine, the new pathology laboratory at St James’s University Hospital. This marks a major milestone as the Trust moves towards the Centre for Laboratory Medicine (CfLM) becoming a hub for regional diagnosis. The new laboratory has been designed to accommodate the future requirements of the WYAAT Pathology network and as the single hub facility for the provision of Microbiology and Virology within WYAAT.

Consistency in microbiology and virology testing across the region would reduce variation to provide our patients a high-quality accredited service. At the St James’s laboratory, purpose-built facilities, the potential for new technologies and increased automation will play a key role in meeting this need. Creating a new pathology partnership would help us achieve a workforce that is sustainable for the future and offer greater opportunities for career development.
