Main duties of the job

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective and compassionate care to our residents. You will work closely with residents, their families and the wider care team to ensure individual care needs are met and the highest standards of care are maintained.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing and reviewing person-centred care plans.
  • Administering medication safely and effectively.
  • Monitoring residents health and wellbeing and responding appropriately to changes in condition.
  • Leading and supporting the care team to ensure high standards of care are consistently delivered.
  • Working collaboratively with GPs, healthcare professionals and other external services.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
  • Supporting residents and their families with compassion, dignity and respect.
  • Promoting a safe, welcoming and positive environment for residents.

Job description

Purpose of role:

To ensure good quality nursing care is available and delivered to residents, and that support workers are safely and appropriately led, supervised and supported throughout their shift. To create and maintain care plans in conjunction with residents and their families/friends.

Specific Responsibilities:

To be directly responsible to the General Manager

To be the clinical lead in charge of the home in the absence of manager or senior nurses.

To work closely with the GP and other members of the wider multiple disciplinary team

To provide care to a high standard in the following:

  • End of life care
  • Continence assessments
  • Catheter care
  • Diabetes management
  • Wound care
  • Assessment of unwell residents
  • Clinical Observations
  • Venepuncture
  • Confirmation of death
  • Pressure area assessment and care
  • Swallowing assessments

(This list is not exhaustive and may be adapted depending on the needs of the organisation and residents in the home).

To work alongside unqualified care staff as mentor/teacher whilst on shift, developing their understanding of nursing care, and, where appropriate, teaching them the skills to take on delegated clinical tasks.as per general manager guidance

To deliver supervision meetings for care staff, in partnership with Team Leaders and wider management team

To participate in the on-call rota shared with other Nurses/Support Team Managers/management

To administer medications and carry out medication rounds when required

To maintain up to date evidence based practice and valid NMC PIN

To attend regular clinical supervisions

To attend handovers and work in partnership with Team Leaders to ensure care staff deliver tasks and attend to residents appropriately and to the required standards

To maintaining good team relationships with all staff members throughout the home

To role model behaviours, a sound work ethic and Ardale ethos at all times to junior staff, residents and visitors

Accountabilities:

Care staff are well supported and trained

Care delivery and clinical issues are handled and delivered in an exemplary manner

Resident care, welfare and safety is embedded as the most important aspect of our operation
