We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Senior Sister to join our department. This is a full-time post requires cover over Warwick and Stratford. The department operates Monday to Friday 08:00-17:30

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide clinical and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to lead and motivate teams, and support the development of staff and services.

The post holder will be self-motivated, organised and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. They will support workforce management, patient safety, governance, service improvement and the delivery of quality care.

The Eye Unit is a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary service caring for patients with a wide range of ophthalmic conditions. Our team includes nurses, healthcare support workers, ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptist, technicians and administrative staff.

The department comprises a busy outpatient service, caring for patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery under local anaesthetics and a nurse-led anti-VEGF injection service. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated team and contribute to the ongoing development of ophthalmology services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the development of the ward team and support the Ward Manager in the delivery of a consistently high quality and cost effective service. To deputise for the Ward Manager as required.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:The post holder will:-Hold a Diploma/Degree in Professional NursingBe a first level registered nurse with 2 years experience in Ophthalmology.Possess relevant post basic education and experience, which should include a minimum of two years at Band 5Provide evidence of continuous personal and professional developmentPossess the aptitude and confidence for working within a rapidly changing environmentHave excellent communication skills both verbal and writtenHave excellent interpersonal and organisational skillsKey ResponsibilitiesTo provide clinical and professional leadership and support to all non-medical staff in the department, ensuring that nursing practice is based on current and best evidenceTake responsibility for own personal and professional development, maintaining clinical credibility and competence at all timesKeep an up to date personal portfolio, in line with revalidation requirements in maintaining NMC registrationEnsure that the department philosophy is in line with the principles of clinical governance and that all staff understands its significance to practiceIn conjunction with the Ward Manager ensure that KPIs, and Infection Prevention standards are maintained each monthClinical

To participate in the setting and maintaining of high standards of evidence based nursingTo supervise and evaluate work of all nursing staffPromote patient and carers involvement in care planning, delivery and evaluations, ensuring junior staff develop the necessary skills to do this.Implement a communication system to keep patients and their relatives/families informed of treatment and progress. Undertake audits at regular intervals to maintain standards of record keeping.Supervises and monitors junior staff in developing the necessary skills to identify care priorities and address them in a pertinent and timely manner, seeking advice where appropriate.Communicates and interacts with patients, carers and staff in a non-judgmental way, demonstrating mutual respect and trust utilising a variety of communication skills.To ensure patients and relatives needs are met in a courteous, helpful and compassionate mannerTo liaise with other agencies and professionals to maintain good service provisionMaintain effective relationships between the department and the multi-disciplinary teamTo maintain accurate and comprehensive records of patients care in line with the NMC code for record keepingCo-ordinate clinical activities within the unit and have responsibility for shift managementAct as clinical leader and role model, sharing expertise with colleaguesTo ensure safety and confidentiality of patient information
