Job summary

Applications are invited to apply for a Trust Specialty Doctor (SAS) in Histopathology to work in the Department of Cellular Pathology at the Wycombe Hospital, High Wycombe. The post is available to start ASAP and is a Full Time vacancy is available. This is a newly created permanent post.All applicants MUST hold a Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK.We anticipate this to be a popular post and this advert may closer earlier than the advised closing date. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will participate in the macroscopic investigation of a wide range of histopathological specimens independently. He/she will carry out cut up duties according to the departmental rotation. The candidate will also be supervising and training registrars and biomedical scientists in cut up. There is also the opportunity to report independently depending on the qualifications and experience. Participation in MDTs and presenting cases is also expected when needed. This can be done under consultant supervision.

The successful candidate must have GMC registration, MBBS (or equivalent), FRCPath Part 1/2 and a minimum of 5 years training in histopathology. The candidate must have at least 2 years of UK Histopathology experience. The post has no on call requirement and working hours are weekdays between 9am-5pm.

Job description

The post holder will be involved in the organisation of the rota of the department and opportunities will be available to learn about general laboratory management and administration.

You will be working alongside 12 Cellular Pathology Consultants, 2 Specialty doctors and 5 Specialist registrars (ST2-ST5) on the Thames Valley Deanery rotation.

The rota will assign the post holder to work with the other 2 specialty doctors and the SpRs in the department to share cutting up and reporting according to a regular timetable.Histopathology cut up

The post holder must be competent in cutting-up all benign cases and most of the complex cancers without consultant supervision. Independent cut up as well training and supervising resident doctors and biomedical scientists in cut are the main responsibilities of the job.

Histopathology reporting, Cytopathology and Autopsy training

This is a service appointment, and the department takes no responsibility for training the post holder for reporting histopathology, diagnostic cytopathology and post-mortems. However, there will be some opportunity to do some reporting of cases depending on the experience and rota arrangement. Independent reporting of benign cases is also part of the main responsibilities. Also the post holder is expected to participate in departmental audits etc.
