Fixed-term contract and/or secondment opportunity for Ealing Council employees for 3 years

Trading Standards Apprentice

£33,609.00 - £37,794.00 per annum (inclusive)

Grade 5-6

We are looking to recruit the next generation of Trading Standards Officers to join our Trading Standards team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to study for a qualification in Trading Standards whilst earning a salary.

As a Trading Standards Apprentice you will undertake the CSA Trading Standards Level 6 apprenticeship training programme. When you are not in classroom studies, your learning and development will be supported by our experienced Trading Standards Officers who will help you to develop your professional skills, knowledge and enforcement experience.

You will qualify as a Trading Standards Professional capable of working across various disciplines, which depending on the option module chosen (based on service needs), may include Product Safety, Food, Feed, or Weights and Measures. This role comes with a strong emphasis on learning the law in relation to tobacco and nicotine products and enforcement.

In Trading Standards, our work is varied and no two days are the same. You will be involved in a wide range of activities and projects, ensuring a fair, safe and legal trading environment. As a member of the team, you will assist with routine inspections, advising businesses, underage test purchase operations, investigating complaints and criminal investigations.

As you progress through the training programme and develop your competencies, you will undertake your own investigations and other enforcement activities, including taking witness statements and writing prosecution reports.

You must have the right to work in the UK. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

It is an exciting time to join us, here at Ealing Council. If you would like to make a positive difference to our residents and borough, then we’re looking forward to hearing from you.

We’ve tried to make this website as accessible as possible. You can use the accessibility widget on the right hand side to make it more accessible to you and your needs.

Ealing Council is committed to creating good jobs and delivering on its connected communities’ agenda. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive.

We therefore welcome applications from all residents of the borough, we particularly welcome applications from candidates who are entering the employment market in the early stages of their career and mid-career professionals, who are currently underrepresented in Ealing’s workforce.

Please note all applications will be determined on merit.

The position is for a fixed period of 3 years. External applicants will be offered a fixed-term contract and existing Ealing Council employees will be offered the opportunity of a secondment. Ealing Council employees must ensure that a secondment release form is signed by their line manager before applying and emailed to [email protected] by the application closing date.

Closing date: 15 September 2026
