Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Specialty Doctor to join the expanding Urology team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This post offers the opportunity to work alongside a recently expanded consultant workforce within a purpose-built diagnostic urology unit located in the Trust's modern Surgical Centre. The successful candidate will gain broad exposure to a comprehensive range of urological services, including diagnostic urology, endourology, stone disease, continence surgery, open and laparoscopic procedures, and emergency urology. The post holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality elective and emergency urological care, undertaking diagnostic procedures such as cystoscopy, TRUS biopsies and urodynamic studies, while supporting the ongoing development of the department's emergency urology service. The role includes participation in the on-call rota and provides excellent opportunities for professional development, service improvement, teaching and research. Main duties of the job

  • Deliver high-quality elective and emergency urological care, working both independently and alongside consultant colleagues in outpatient, diagnostic and surgical settings. [
  • Undertake diagnostic urology procedures including cystoscopy, transperineal biopsies and urodynamic studies, with opportunities to develop expertise.
  • Play a leading role in the department's diagnostic urology service, supporting the expansion of specialist and one-stop clinic services within the Trust's dedicated diagnostic urology unit.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the emergency urology service by supporting earlier patient transfer, timely clinical decision-making and improved acute patient pathways.
  • Participate in the Urology on-call rota and support the delivery of a comprehensive urology service to the local population.
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff and contribute to multidisciplinary team working.
  • Support service improvement initiatives, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities within the department.
  • Take part in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, teaching and training activities, and participate in departmental meetings and continuing professional development.

Job description

The post holder will support the delivery of a comprehensive urology service, working closely with consultant colleagues across outpatient, diagnostic, elective and emergency settings. Responsibilities will include undertaking diagnostic procedures such as cystoscopy, transperineal biopsies and urodynamic studies, contributing to the development of the emergency urology service, and participating in the Urology on-call rota.

The successful candidate will gain experience in a wide range of urological specialties, including stone disease, endourology, continence surgery, open and laparoscopic surgery, and prostate diagnostics, while helping to deliver high-quality patient care within a modern diagnostic urology unit.

The role also includes supporting junior medical staff, participating in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities, attending departmental meetings, and contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
