Oakham Medical Practice is located in the thriving market town of Oakham, in the beautiful county of Rutland. Market Overton Surgery is situated in a picturesque village in North Rutland, with a branch surgery in nearby Somerby, just across the border in Leicestershire. Together, our practices provide high-quality healthcare services to approximately 20,000 patients, as well as delivering medical support to a local independent school in Oakham.
As members of Rutland Health Primary Care Network (PCN), we work collaboratively with our partners across primary care, community services, and social care to provide integrated, patient-centred healthcare.
We are a dynamic, innovative, and forward-thinking partnership-led organisation with a strong commitment to training and professional development. As a recognised training practice, we support GP Registrars from ST1 to ST3, helping to develop the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job
Join our Medicines Management Team and play a vital role in supporting the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. Working closely with GPs, clinical pharmacists, and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the efficient management of prescribing and medication-related processes across the practice.
This varied and rewarding role offers the opportunity to support medicines optimisation, promote best practice, and help ensure patients receive the highest standard of care while supporting the evolving needs of our practices.
Job description
To work as part of the Medicines Management Team responsible for supporting the multi-disciplinary team, providing safe and efficient management of medications, as required, in line with the needs of the practice.
- Be the first point of contact for all medication requests, in accordance with Practice protocol, and redirect as appropriate
- Ensure all prescription requests are processed within a 48-hour timeframe
- Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections
- Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician
- Record and report adverse effects accurately and appropriately, informing the Clinical Lead immediately
- Work with the Admin Team to manage medication related recalls
- Ensure that patient medication queries via AccurX, email, tasks, documents and online forms are managed appropriately
- Support Pharmacists and Medicines Management Team as required
- With the Team Leader, support in applying pharmacy and medicines management rotas to SystmOne.
- With the Team Leader, be involved in the induction of new non-clinical members of the Patient Services Team regarding medicines management
- Undertake any other reasonable additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Managers
