Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, part of the Active Care Group, is a modern independent hospital providing an inpatient Level 1 intensive brain injury rehabilitation service (29 NHS England funded beds) for the South West of England and a further 23 slower-stream neuro-rehabilitation beds (Level 2). Both services are managed in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic and supportive team and develop your skills in neurorehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

ou will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients with complex needs following an acute neurological event such as traumatic and acquired brain injury, or other neurological conditions. You will ideally have clinical experience in the assessment and management of patients experiencing cognitive and physical impairments and subsequent difficulties in function.

The team consists of a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and a Consultant in Neuropsychiatry, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Nurses and Rehabilitation Technicians. Interdisciplinary working is optimised through shared goal setting and treatment opportunities. Job description

What you'll be working:

This role is 37.5 hours a week Monday to Friday.

What you'll be doing:

  • Deliver specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions for adults with complex neurological conditions, including acquired and traumatic brain injuries.
  • Develop and implement personalised treatment programmes, rehabilitation goals, and discharge plans that support successful patient outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide evidence-based, patient-centred rehabilitation.
  • Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to assess physical, cognitive, communication and behavioural needs and determine appropriate treatment pathways.
  • Engage patients and their families in the rehabilitation process, providing guidance, education and support throughout their recovery journey.
  • Contribute to patient reviews, case conferences, discharge planning meetings and the preparation of professional reports.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records in line with professional, legal and organisational standards.
  • Support service development initiatives, quality improvement projects, clinical audits and research activities within the Occupational Therapy service.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and support to junior Occupational Therapists, Rehabilitation Technicians and Occupational Therapy students where appropriate.
  • Deliver training and share specialist knowledge with colleagues across the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure clinical practice remains aligned with HCPC standards, professional guidelines and current evidence-based practice.
  • Contribute to outcome measurement and service evaluation activities to support continuous improvement in patient care.
