Job summary

Are you an experienced Facilities Management leader looking for an opportunity to provide strategic leadership across a diverse portfolio of services within a complex healthcare environment?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Synchronicity Care Limited (SCL) as Associate Director of Facilities. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of a broad range of Soft FM services across four hospital sites, including car parking, decontamination, portering, telecommunications, transport, security and waste management.

You will provide expert leadership and professional advice across SCL and County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, working closely with senior colleagues, clinical teams, PFI partners and other key stakeholders. With responsibility for approximately 300 Facilities staff and delegated responsibility for Facilities Services resources, you will play a key role in ensuring safe, effective, compliant, resilient and patient-focused services.

SCL is a wholly owned subsidiary of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) and operates under its own Terms and Conditions.

Main duties of the job

As Associate Director of Facilities, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio of Soft FM services, ensuring they are safe, compliant, resilient, efficient and focused on the needs of patients, staff and visitors.

You will lead and develop a workforce of approximately 300 staff across four hospital sites, with responsibility for service performance, financial resources, workforce planning, risk, governance and continuous improvement.

Working at a senior corporate level, you will provide expert Facilities advice to SCL and the Trust, contribute to Board and Executive discussions, and work collaboratively with clinical, corporate and external partners. You will lead service transformation, manage complex contractual and PFI relationships, ensure regulatory and statutory compliance, and support the organisations resilience and sustainability objectives.

You will also deputise for the Managing Director when required, representing SCL at senior forums and providing effective leadership on complex and sensitive issues.

Main Duties of the Role:

Provide strategic leadership for a diverse portfolio of Soft Facilities Management services supporting the safe, effective and efficient operation of the Trusts hospitals.

Lead services including car parking, decontamination, portering, telecommunications, transport, security and waste management, ensuring high standards of quality, performance, compliance and patient experience.

Provide leadership and direction to approximately 300 Facilities staff across four hospital sites, promoting a positive, inclusive and high-performing culture.

Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, retention, performance management, employee relations, training and staff development.

Hold delegated responsibility for Facilities Services financial resources, ensuring effective budget management, efficiency, productivity and value for money.

Provide strategic oversight of service performance, risk, governance, health and safety, business continuity and regulatory compliance.

Lead key Facilities assurance and information requirements, including ERIC, PAM, PLACE and the Data Security and Protection Toolkit.

Provide specialist Facilities advice and assurance across complex PFI, OHF, Non-OHF, NHS Property Services and Community Health Partnerships arrangements.

Develop effective relationships with senior Trust colleagues, clinical teams, corporate functions, contractors, PFI partners, suppliers and external stakeholders.

Provide authoritative advice on complex Facilities matters and contribute to senior corporate and Board-level decision-making.

Lead and influence service improvement, transformation and modernisation programmes, identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, sustainability and value for money.

Contribute to delivery of the Trust Green Plan, including Travel and Transport objectives, and support wider sustainability and resilience priorities.

Ensure Facilities services are prepared to respond effectively to operational disruption, major incidents and changing healthcare requirements.

Deputise for the Managing Director when required, representing SCL at senior Trust, corporate and external forums.

Operate with a high degree of autonomy, professional judgement and accountability, balancing competing operational, clinical, financial, contractual and organisational priorities.
