Job summary

BCUHB West (Conwy, Gwynedd, Ynys Mon) Lead Veterans Psychological Therapist (Band 8a) - Veterans' NHS Wales (VNHSW).

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced CBT Therapist to join the Veterans' NHS Wales Service, established in 2010 and funded by Welsh Government. VNHSW is a specialist primary care mental health psychological therapy service that offers outpatient psychological therapy. The client group is ex-military personnel with mental health and social difficulties related to their military service.

The post holder will be line managed within BCUHB AMH Psychology & Psychological Services, and will work closely with the national Veterans NHS Wales hub based in Cardiff and Vale UHB.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the National VNHSW team and will work with colleagues locally in BCUHB to:

  • Be a lead for the three West counties in BCUHB (Conwy, Gwynedd & Ynys Mon)
  • Provide veterans with a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment that accurately assesses their specific needs
  • Support other staff including peer mentors attached to that geographical patch
  • Develop and facilitate the delivery of individual care management plans
  • Provide out-patient high intensity evidence-based psychological interventions as recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines
  • The post holder will offer psychological therapy to patients who have a range of complex mental health and social problems
  • To work collaboratively with their counterpoint in the East (Wrexham, Flintshire & Denbighshire)
  • To sign-post to other services and agencies involved in the care of veterans, to promote multi-agency working to improve outcomes for veterans based on the recovery model

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
