Main duties of the job

We are seeking to employ Community Nursery Nurses with an NNEB or NVQ Level 3 in Childcare to our Health Visiting teams to work across various sites in Barnet. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as we expand our Community Nursery Nurse provision.

You would be expected to demonstrate effective communication skills due to the nature of the role in working with children and families. Proactive communication with colleagues and partners is also essential to ensure local health priorities are addressed to improve health outcomes for children in Barnet.

Good IT skills are essential for the role and you will be involved in delivering key aspects of the Healthy Child Programme. Supporting the development of the service and working with colleagues and partners, to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective Universal Health Provision as delegated by the Health Visitor/Team Leader. The role includes assessing children's development, supporting families with infant feeding and child development.

We will offer a comprehensive and robust induction programme, with a six-month probation period.

Job description

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

A. Leadership

1. To support the development of well functioning integrated teams by modelling effective team working and communication skills, and by supporting change within the service.

2. To ensure that individuals within the teams are aware of and work within the Trust policies and procedures. To ensure the maintenance of up to date, accurate records that comply with local and national standards.

3. To develop and maintain effective and appropriate communication systems with staff and colleagues within Whittington Health, Childrens Centres, Schools and GP Practices.

4. To take every reasonable step to see that the working environment is safe, healthy and hazard free for staff and users, including ensuring that infection control procedures are in place.

5. To facilitate the use of information technology and ensure that relevant and up to date information on clinical and service developments are provided to agreed timescales.

6. To participate in audit, research projects and/or innovations following agreed policy and protocol.

7. To participate in the induction of newly appointed team members and support with students on placement within the team.

B. Clinical

• To work closely with colleagues in the Health Visiting team in the planning and delivery of health promotion activities and public health initiatives in a variety of settings.

2. To work closely with colleagues in the Health Visiting team to meet the specific health needs of individual children and families, including carrying out programmes of work in the home.

3. To provide and promote access to information and other services, to refer as appropriate. To liaise and work in partnership with statutory and non-statutory agencies, and other health services colleagues.

4. To work in partnership with local Childrens Centres to involve parents with the programme and to have an input in the planning and delivery of services.

5. To participate in multi-agency working and develop links with local nurseries and other community groups. Under the supervision of the Health Visitor, work with families with complex medical/developmental needs and attend Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings where appropriate.

6. To work in partnership with colleagues and other professionals to promote healthy lifestyles and healthy schools through health promoting activities. To provide health promotion/education in a range of settings and with groups and individuals.

7. To carry out ASQs/health reviews on children at 1 and 2 years of age and review/refer as appropriate. To regularly monitor children with identified needs.

8. Manage a caseload of children with SEND, under the supervision of the Health Visitor. Liaising with the multiagency network to ensure the childrens identified health needs are addressed.

9. To undertake Transfer In Visits for universal families, as directed by the Health Visitor.

10. To undertake bloodspot sampling, following appropriate training.

11. To work with the team to support children, young people and families who are vulnerable or at risk. Under the supervision of the Health Visitor, undertake identified pieces of work with Universal Plus (UP) and Partnership Plus (UPP) families. To adhere to current Local Safeguarding Board and London Child Protection Procedures and attend child protection supervision.

12. Work with the Health Visitors and School Nurses on the transition of children into reception in primary school.

13. To undertake mandatory training, and service specific training as required to maintain skills and competencies.

14. To support with managing well baby clinics and to lead, where appropriate.

C. Partnership with Service Users 1. To support opportunities for ongoing involvement of children, young people, parents and carers in development of services and quality assurance.

D. Quality Assurance

1. To adhere to Clinical Governance mechanisms and monitoring systems that assures the quality of the service.

2. To comply with Whittington Health infection control standards and policies, and attendance at infection control training.
