Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified Occupational Therapist or an established 5 wanting to gain physical health, inpatient experience, to join our friendly and supportive team at Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust. The post holder will complete a wide variety of acute and rehab physical rotation alongside preceptorship.

To facilitate your successful transition from student to qualified OT band 5s are supported by senior therapists, and peer support, alongside band 5 meetings and in service training and team meetings. This is a great place to start your career, many of our 6s and 7s have successfully progressed from band 5s within our Trust.

Rotations cover the following specialities:

  • Frailty
  • Acute Medicine & Surgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Acute & Rehab of Older Adults
  • Neurology
  • The Stroke Unit

The department has moved to 7 day service, as a result several of the rotations will involve weekend shifts. This is on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

As part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), assess the suitability of patients for provision of OT interventions following a referral.

To carry out specific standardised and non-standardised OT assessment(s) within your designated caseload.

To ensure ongoing monitoring and evaluation of intervention programmes.

To effectively communicate with patient, their relatives and carers, and all other relevant parties involved with the patient's care.

To maintain the role of OT as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.

To communicate and liaise, formally and informally, at all times with the team or appropriate others with regards to OT involvement with all patients in the treatment programme.

To participate in all relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings.

To attend relevant meetings and feedback to appropriate individuals.

To participate in presentations to patients regarding occupational therapy interventions - e.g. through patient education classes as part of Joint Replacement School.

To actively prepare for and participate in regular supervision with senior occupational therapists.

To actively participate in performance reviews, in line with Knowledge & Skills Framework (KSF) outline of post, Trust policies, departmental objectives and relevant local initiatives

To participate in team building exercises.

Job summary

1. To successfully complete the OT process in a variety of rotations.

2. To be able to work autonomously and seek support when required.

3. To successfully build on clinical and non-clinical skills and take increasing responsibility and ownership of caseload and clinical decisions.

4. To be able to complete assessments, treatments and discharges in a timely manner.

5. To provide effective client centred occupational therapy service to patients who may have complex needs in your current area of rotation in accordance with the College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

6. To devise, implement and evaluate individual treatment and interventions.

7. To work effectively and efficiently on an individual and team level within a multi-disciplinary team and maintain clear communication networks with staff, patients, and carers.

8. To build partnerships with and network with colleagues across health and social care and with voluntary and statutory agencies, and work in partnership with relevant community resources.

9. Participate in the inpatient physio and OT weekend working rota.
