Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 7 Specialist Midwife to lead and develop diabetes-in-pregnancy pathways within our maternity services.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and motivated midwife with a passion for diabetes care to provide specialist, evidence-based care to women with pre-existing and gestational diabetes throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership, specialist advice and education, whilst contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the diabetes maternity service. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary maternity and diabetes teams, the post holder will support the delivery of high-quality, personalised care and help to improve outcomes and experiences for women and their babies.

The successful candidate will be a confident and autonomous practitioner with excellent clinical, communication and leadership skills, able to influence and support colleagues. You will play a key role in promoting evidence-based practice, developing clinical pathways, supporting education and training, and contributing to quality improvement and service development.

Main duties of the job

To lead on SBLCBv3 for element 6:

Ensuring there are standardised pathways of care for MDT management of women with diabetes in pregnancy.

Improving management of glucose control during pregnancy by focusing support on high-risk women and by ensuring consistent and high levels of uptake of digital glucose monitoring technology.

Be an autonomous practitioner within the team.

Refer as appropriate to the multidisciplinary team.

Assist with review of women with diabetes in pregnancy across all areas.

Comply with Trust Policies regarding conduct and performance.

To work with our senior midwifery team in the development of a safety culture.

Provide, on a regular basis, constructive and positive feedback. Identify and disseminate learning from outcomes.

To work in collaboration with colleagues throughout the service to ensure safe birth outcomes.

Act as a role model demonstrating clinical leadership and midwifery expertise.

Provide enhanced teaching and additional support to staff to gain relevant competencies.

Assist with investigation of incidents, implementing any recommendations in line with the PSIRF model.

Promote evidence-based practice throughout the maternity service.

Work with the midwifery management and education team towards achieving corporate standards as well as meeting the relevant national and local criteria.
