Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position within the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. The project will involve the development of an innovative new multiparametric sensor technology to monitor the microbial properties of cattle rumen. This sensor bolus will be manufactured and used to measure physical and chemical parameters in cattle, including methane emissions with the aim of developing greenhouse gas mitigations strategies.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in a relevant physical/engineering science. The candidates should possess knowledge of basic electronics, and experience in sensor design, fabrication and testing would be desirable.

We are looking for a self-motivated person, able to organise their own research activities effectively, and collaborate successfully across disciplines. The successful candidate will be a good communicator and will be expected to take the lead in preparing reports, presenting results to the consortium and writing research papers. You must also be able to work effectively in a team and organize time, tasks and responsibilities with other team members.

The post will be held in the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) (ecs.soton.ac.uk). Ranked in the top 1% of universities globally and among the UK's top 20 for research, the University of Southampton has an international reputation for its research, teaching and enterprise activities.
