About the Role

A Research Assistant position is available in the Department of Chemistry within the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences (SPCS) of Queen Mary, University of London to work with Professor Christian Nielsen on the design and synthesis of mixed ionic-electronic conductors for neuromorphic applications.

The post-holder will work within an EU- and UKRI-funded project “In-situ & operando organic electrochemical transistors monitored by non-destructive spectroscopies for organic CMOS-like neuromorphic circuits (ICONIC)” in collaboration with the consortium. The post-holder will design and synthesise organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors (OMIECs). They will also be required to analyse the experimental data and report it in the form of presentations and research reports. The post-holder will join a multi-disciplinary team and interact closely with collaborators throughout the duration of the project.

About You

You should have a 2.1 or higher undergraduate degree in Chemistry or related discipline, knowledge of organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors and active materials for organic electrochemical transistor applications, and experience in the design and synthesis of complex organic molecules.

About the School

The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences (SPCS) at Queen Mary University of London is a large, multidisciplinary and research-intensive school within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. While it is built around the core disciplines of Physics, Astronomy, and Chemistry, it also incorporates data science, reflecting a growing emphasis on computational and data-driven approaches across science.

The School has a diverse and active community, with over 900 undergraduate students, more than 100 postgraduate taught students, around 115 postgraduate researchers, and approximately 150 academic and professional staff.

SPCS is primarily based at the Mile End campus, with facilities in the G.O. Jones and J. Priestley buildings that include advanced laboratories, workshops, and shared study and social spaces. Teaching is also delivered at the London City Institute of Technology and internationally in partnership with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) in Hainan, China.
